Penn Fathom II Star Drag FTHII12SD

A great strong new powerful Fathom reel by Penn great for all conditions of fishing tailored for the fishermen who needs power and reliability for a reel

that rarely breaks, quick delivery.

The PENN Fathom II 15 SD Mag is a high-performance multiplier reel that is a firm favourite among UK beach and shore anglers. It’s a reel that offers a perfect blend of power, casting distance, and user-friendly features. The “SD” stands for “Star Drag,” and the “Mag” refers to its adjustable magnetic braking system, a crucial feature for achieving long, controlled casts. This reel is a fantastic option for those who want a robust and reliable multiplier for a wide range of saltwater fishing applications, from the beach to the boat.

• Solid Metal Construction: The Fathom II 15 SD Mag is built with a full metal body and sideplates. This rigid, one-piece frame ensures that the internal gears remain in perfect alignment, even under the immense pressure of a heavy cast or a hard-fighting fish. This robust construction makes the reel incredibly durable and reliable in the harsh saltwater environment.
• Adjustable Magnetic Casting Brake: This is a defining feature of the reel. The adjustable magnetic braking system allows the angler to dial in the amount of braking needed to suit the conditions on the day. This is a game-changer for casting, as it helps to prevent line overruns (bird’s nests) and gives the angler much greater control, especially when casting into a headwind or with lighter baits.
• Live Spindle with Free Floating Spool: The reel is equipped with a live spindle design, which means the spool is independent of the spindle during the cast. This free-floating spool reduces friction and allows the spool to spin more freely, resulting in longer, more effortless casts.
• HT-100™ Drag System: The Fathom II 15 SD Mag is equipped with PENN’s renowned HT-100™ carbon washer drag system. The “Versa-Drag” system allows for smooth, consistent drag performance under pressure, with a powerful maximum drag force of 13.6kg (30 lbs). This is more than enough to stop and control powerful fish. The reel also features a Fast Gear Access Sideplate, which allows you to quickly and easily service the gears and drag system.
• Durable Gearing: The reel features machine-cut marine-grade bronze main gear and a hardened stainless steel pinion gear. This combination of materials provides exceptional strength, durability, and a smooth retrieve. The 6.1:1 gear ratio is high speed, making it efficient for retrieving line quickly, which is a major benefit when fishing at range.
• Reliable Bearing System: The reel is fitted with a solid 6 shielded stainless steel ball bearing system plus an instant anti-reverse bearing. The shielded bearings provide good protection against corrosion, and the anti-reverse bearing ensures immediate hook sets without any back play.

• Weight: 485g (17.1 oz)
• Bearings: 6 shielded stainless steel ball bearings + 1 instant anti-reverse bearing
• Gear Ratio: 6.1:1
• Line Retrieve per Turn: 76cm (30 inches)
• Max Drag Force: 13.6kg (30 lbs)
• Mono Capacity: 325m of 0.35mm (approx.)
• Braid Capacity: 550yd of 20lb (approx.)

The PENN Fathom II 15 SD Mag is an outstanding choice for the dedicated UK angler due to its combination of advanced technology, durability, and casting prowess.

1. Casting Performance: The magnetic brake and live spindle system make this reel a dream to cast. It gives the angler the control needed to push for maximum distance, even in challenging, windy conditions. It’s a fantastic reel for casting from the beach, pier, or even a boat. It’s often compared to the legendary Penn 525 series, and is considered a great modern alternative.
2. Built for UK Conditions: The all-metal body and sideplates, along with the corrosion-resistant bearings and HT-100 drag, ensure this reel is built to withstand the tough saltwater environment, from abrasive sand to corrosive salt spray.
3. Versatility and Power: The reel’s powerful drag and high-speed retrieve make it a versatile tool for a variety of fishing applications, from targeting bass and rays to cod and smooth-hounds. Its size is suitable for fishing with lines from 15lb to 25lb, and its line capacity is more than enough for dealing with larger fish.
4. Excellent Value: The Fathom II 15 SD Mag provides a suite of high-end features at a very competitive price. It’s a durable and high-performing reel that will provide years of reliable service.
